Ah Dior! By far one of the dreamiest runway shows I have seen in a long time. The setting was both futuristic and retro at the same time and had me longing for the perfect summer getaway. With the arrival of the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, Dior put on their own show at the Bubbles Palace. After Monaco and New York, the Christian Dior house presented their 2016 Cruise fashion show on Monday the 11th of May in the Bubble Palace, in front of the Cannes bay, in Théoule-sur Mer, the out of ordinary residence of the couturier Pierre Cardin, designed by the architect Antti Lovag. Raf Simons continues the transition of the label towards a modern and contemporary silhouette without forgetting the DNA of the illustrious founder. He revisits the Bar jacket, the suit in its short version, all with a play on materials. The camouflage designs find a more arty direction, just like the graphic palette of the collection. The silhouette is softened by the rounded cuts and the wave like effects. The checks are layered on top of one another, the transparent pieces are suggestive with net dresses or a crochet skirt…The ground, the sky and the seascapes are adapted into collages in lurex fabrics and knitted fur. A fresh, light, young and luminous collection, in perfect harmony with the location.
