If you have a spare room in your home, that is just sitting there unused and unloved, then read on. Whether the space you have is big or small, why not turn it into a snug?
After another long day at the office – sigh, or yet another day of taxiing the kids around, having somewhere to unwind is a must. That’s where your snug comes in; snugs are the perfect place to wind down and relax at the end of a long and stressful day.
You might be thinking, ‘why can’t I relax in my living room?’. The answer to that is that, of course, you could relax in your living room, but then you would be at risk of being disturbed. Unlike a living room, a snug is a space that doesn’t have a television or music blaring. A snug is somewhere that is quiet and calm, where you can go to enjoy some much-needed alone time. If the idea of creating a snug appeals to you, make sure to have a read of my top design tips, below:
Pick your color scheme carefully
Your snug should be a relaxing place, so it makes sense to choose a color scheme that is calm and tranquil. Opt for a mix of neutral colors and pastel hues, such as cream and duck egg, or cream a mint green. As well as decorating the walls in these colors, you can also use the furniture and soft furnishings to bring the color scheme of the room together. By choosing calm, neutral colors, this will add a sense of calm to the room that can be felt as soon as you enter the room.
Opt for comfort
Your snug is somewhere that should be as comfortable and cozy as possible. If you want to create an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming, choosing soft furnishings that are comfortable is a must. Sofas are ideal for placing in snugs – the bigger and more luxurious, the better. As well as having a sofa or two in your snug, it’s also a good idea to invest in a couple of beanbags for lounging on. They come in all styles, colors and sizes, so finding some to match your design should be easy. For more information on the types available, have a look at the Fombag FAQ page.
Be clear on the basics
It’s all very well planning out exactly, what throws you want, but before you do that, you need to be clear on the basics. By taking the time to plan out the basic elements of the room, you can ensure that you get your design project off to a fantastic start. When it comes to choosing the type of flooring that you want, for a relaxed, chic look, opt for flooring that is light colored. White wooden flooring is ideal, as it not only adds calm to the space but also adds style. As well as thinking about the flooring, it’s also important to think about the room’s layout. Sit down and draw out a room plan and decide where you would like everything to go. The layout of the room is important, as it can affect how calm and relaxing the space can feel.
Lighting is important
When it comes to creating an atmosphere that is calming and tranquil, lighting is incredibly important. Avoid harsh, overhead lighting, instead opt for table lamps and strings of fairy lights to add warmth and calm to the space.
If you want somewhere to relax and unwind after a long day at work, a snug is the perfect place. It might take a white to create, but it’s definitely worth the effort.
