The 2013 American Music Awards were mostly boring to say the least, but the red carpet proved to be a mix of style home-runs, decent looks and a few “why did they wear this moments.” I always like to start on a positive note. So, lets discuss the winners on the red carpet first!
Best Dressed
Jennifer Hudson in Dior
Perfection! the colors are great and make me wish for warming temperatures! The gold shoes were a perfect choice to combine with the bright orange and pink. I would have loved to see her add a statement necklace, but it’s not a deal breaker. There are times when simple is better. Plus, love that haircut!
Ciara
I really love this choice of dress for her. It’s very edgy, an image Ciara is embracing, and it’s revealing, but subtle. You have to look closely to realize that the dress is really shear and the panels only cover up the lady parts.
Taylor Swift in BCBG
A VAST improvement from her look at the MTV VMA’s! She is finally wearing a dress that is age appropriate! The dress is young and fun just like she is! The strappy sandals were an amazing choice and the “slightly messy” look she chose for her hair works!
Emma Roberts
Emma was an almost best dressed for me. I love the material of the dress, the fact that it’s strapless and the choice of purple accessories. However, it needed to be a bit more tailored in the waist area. The look I think she was going for was baggy , relaxed waist. That being said, the dress was a bit too baggy in the waist area.
Worst Dressed
Lil’ Mama
Besides giving a horrendous performance with TLC (Watch Here), she showed up on the red carpet looking a hot green mess. The dress looks like a Mother-of-the-Bride gown from the clearance rack at David’s Bridal. This is all T-Boz and Chilli’s fault. If they had not asked her to perform with them, perhaps she would have stayed at home and spared us all from looking at this awful dress. And, as a side note to T-Boz and Chilli, I beg of you to NEVER ask Lil Mama to perform as Left Eye again. Lil Mama is the same crazy person who crashed Jay Z and Alicia Keys performance at the VMA’s . She will do anything to be included and relevant. Sigh…
Zoe Saldana
She is beautiful, but the light blue side panel and the black satin strap at the top make this dress look like a design school project verses a red carpet worthy gown. Better luck next time Zoe!
Kelly Osbourne in Rami Al Ali
As a member of E’s Fashion Police, Kelly knows better than this. I mean she literally knows better! So when you know better why not do better? That question will remain unanswered in this gown choice. If the whole gown was like the top, this would have been a great dress, BUT she loses me with the tulle and the squiggly lines at the bottom half of the dress. The shoe choice is horrible. What possessed her to think that a nude pump would compliment a purplish, silver dress is a mystery to me.
