you live in an apartment and are looking to spruce things up a little, read on. We’ve pulled together some amazing tips from around the world to present to you in one, tiny package. So without further ado, we’re going to dive right in and get your living space looking great.
Find a feature
Although many modern flats are often branded as soulless, there will be at least one feature in your home that you can make the most of. Perhaps it’s a great view or a fireplace. Maybe you have a fabulous open plan kitchen. Have a look around in your apartment and focus on the one feature that makes it sing. You will be using that as the basis of everything we look at from here.
Change your lighting
Lighting is something that illuminates and calms in equal measure – and to be frank, you can never have enough. Try finding some spotlights and point the in the area of your main feature to how it off. This will give focus to the room and take away from any blandness in the building. Also, think about installing different layers of light. Use lamps at low, medium and high levels – and even different colored bulbs – to create a moody effect.
Get a good carpet
Sound insulation is a big problem in apartments, so unless you want to hear what your neighbors are doing – or for them to listen to what you do – then get a good carpet. It will dampen the noise significantly. A great carpet will also give you that extra bit of cosiness that some apartment blocks lack.
Vary your wallpaper
To give your apartment a little bit more personality, furnish it with a variety of wallpaper and paint. Keep to lighter colors if you are in a small place – it will help to make it appear bigger. You could try breaking up long walls with a strip or two of really beautiful wallpaper, or even get a mural designed by the likes of Wallpaperink. There’s a lot you can do to even the smallest of living spaces, so be as creative as you possibly can.
If you live in a small space, then go mirror shopping, as soon as possible. Mirrors can make any room or living space look a lot bigger, and if you position them correctly, you’ll find they have a fantastic effect. Don’t overdo it, though. Too much of anything is never a good idea!
Use floating shelves
One of the big problems with flats and apartments is that they often have large, long walls. It can be very difficult to break it up into sections, but there is a simple option: floating shelves. Not only are they great places for books and decorations, but they will also give your flat that little extra spark of personality
