The nominees are in! Last night, the Council of Fashion Designers of America announced the nominees for the upcoming CFDA Awards to take place on June 1 at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Often called “The Oscars of Fashion”, the CFDA recognizes outstanding achievement in American design. Check out the list of nominees below and my predictions of who the winners will be!
Womenswear Designer of the Year Award
Joseph Altuzarra for Altuzarra
Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough for Proenza Schouler
Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen for The Row.
My Prediction for the Winner: Michael Kors. Besides being one of the most profitable designers in history, he has made great strides in dressing he modern American woman regardless of age, size or income.
Menswear Designer of the Year Award
Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for Public School,
David Neville and Marcus Wainwright for Rag & Bone
My Prediction for the Winner: Thom Browne. His creativity is astounding and his ability to combine avant garde with traditional style is like no other!
Accessory Designer of the Year Award
Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler
Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen for The Row
My Prediction for the Winner: Alexander Wang. His accessory collections for the past few seasons have been outstanding. You can tell he and his team have taken the time to put a great deal of thought into making their accessory pieces as desirable as their ready to wear.
Swarovski Award for Womenswear
Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for Public School
My Prediction for the Winner: Ryan Roche. Ryan’s technique and approach to knitwear is a talent that is rarely seen. Ever since the first time I discovered her brand, I have fallen even more in love with her pieces and am excited to see her growth as a designer season after season.
Swarovski Award for Menswear
Shayne Oliver for Hood by Air
Alex Orley, Matthew Orley and Samantha Orley for Orley
Ariel and Shimon Ovadia for Ovadia & Sons
My Prediction for the Winner: The Orley Trio. Their brand is a refreshing take on menswear; They strike the perfect balance between vintage and modern.
Swarosvki Award for Accessory Design
Eva Zuckerman for Eva Fehren
Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel for Mansur Gavriel.
My Prediction for the Winner: Eva Zuckerman. I enjoy her “Simple is beautiful” approach to jewelry design and would die for a collaboration between her and Swarosvki
